Rhino horticulture AGV
Agri - System integration - Mobile control
An electric tractor for handling internal logistics in horticultural companies.

Background
Achterbosch Mechanical Engineering offers a wide range of technical services. From welding to machining and bending using modern CNC machines to developing and manufacturing complete machines. We have been working together for many years to develop total solutions for the internal logistics of pot and tray plants in combination with sprinkling, pouring or control. Combining our proven concepts with customer-specific customization creates a cost-efficient total solution for growers. Together with Achterbosch, among other things, we developed an electric tractor.
The high degree of robustness makes Rhino suitable for the demanding environmental conditions demanded in the horticultural industry. Through its modern control system with intuitive operation, Rhino is ideally suited to fully automate the internal logistics of horticultural companies. The high tractive force of up to approx. 1,500 kg comes into its own especially for long transports such as Danish carts.
Challenge
To develop a continuously adjustable Automatic Guided Vehicle to move planting materials in a greenhouse complex. In addition to performing automatic tasks, the vehicle must also be easy to use by hand. This demands a lot from the drive concept to be able to drive steplessly from standstill. The tractor must be usable both autonomously and in combination with a central process control system.
Solution
The basis of this electric tractor is a solid frame with a generous battery pack and a powerful drive train. That's why we jokingly call it "Rhino." The solid rubber, profiled wheels ensure optimal performance on slippery floors. Rhino is ideally suited for long transport of Danish carts, for example. The control switches intuitively between automatic and manual operation.
Rhino is also distinguished above all by its modern controls. For example, the touchscreen can be operated remotely via a smartphone, routes are accurately tracked, the trolley positions accurately, wireless communication with the environment such as doors or production machinery is provided, and the control works optimally together with an optional central process control if complex traffic situations or business processes are required.
The trigger is equipped with an arm, similar to those used on electric pallet trucks. As soon as the arm is folded down, the trigger follows the movement of the arm. If the arm is folded up again, then the automatic program continues. Our Ribotic navigation antenna is used for reliable positioning, induction loop tracking, RFID transponder reading and RFID transponder navigation. Using robust three-phase induction technology, the travel drive delivers high torque over the full stepless control range. The driven nose wheel provides extremely precise steering.
