Background
OEM machine builder Sieplo operates in the feed robotics business. The company stands out for its FeedR, an Autonomous Guided Vehicle in an unstructured environment. The feeding robots drive both indoors and outdoors. Furthermore, the feeding system consists of equipment such as automatic doors, feed bunkers and feed silos. With Sieplo, RIWO has a long-standing development and production relationship. With the technology platform RIBOTIC, RIWO supplies an important heart of AGV technology. The customer requirement identified by Sieplo was to perform feed system installation processes faster but safely, while maintaining flexibility in functionality.
To scale up sales numbers, Sieplo identified new requirements that existing technology become easier to install in the ever-changing customer-specific barn environments. Technologies to be included in this:
- Conceptualization of integral robotic system
- Integrated machine safety in modular design
Approach: technical workshop
To explore this question, RIWO organized a technical workshop. This session covered the most important aspects:
- Market demand and need:
What are the needs, what are the requirements, what are the wishes and what legislation applies. - Technical capabilities:
Analysis of existing technologies, their readiness and applicability for the stated need. - Development Strategy:
A plan of action for a modular rollout of feeding systems by dealers across Europe.
After conducting the workshop, Sieplo's management had a clear understanding of the desired functionalities and possible technical solutions. And a rationale for the investment proposal through a plan of action. Thanks to this approach, the Sieplo took the first steps in an innovation journey toward a modular and scalable product structure.
